Re: Invitation to National Workshop on Technological & Commercial Innovation

Dear Member

The University of Papua New Guinea and the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry is

honoured to invite you to take part in the first National Workshop on Technological and Commercial Innovation in Papua New Guinea.

The workshop will take place at Ela Beach Hotel on Thursday 8th October 2015 from 10.30am to 2pm.  A lunch will be offered to the participants.

The University of Papua New Guinea is developing a broad research on commercial and industrial innovation.

We would like to invite stakeholders (Industries, SME’s, government agencies, finance and bank representatives) to take part in this workshop to address various aspects of innovation and economic development in Papua New Guinea.

This workshop will provide  unique avenues through which actors of the private sector and SOEs can express  their concerns and their experiences.

We expect these workshops to lead to the drafting of new government policies more favorable to innovation and private economic investors.

Technological, industrial, and managerial innovations play a crucial role at all levels of development.

In PNG salient features can be observed: low level of industrial production, limited internal market, limited professional expertise, and one of the worlds’ highest cost of production and transport. In such context, innovation would play a key role in reinforcing  PNG economic and political autonomy.

The workshop will be divided in five subgroups that address key hindering factors and enable

identifying niches for industrial and commercial innovation:

- Research and development in industry and manufacturing

- research and development in agriculture

- hindering factors for industrial and commercial innovation

- current assets for economic development in PNG

- prospective niches for economic development and innovation in PNG

The expected outcomes for this workshop will be guidelines for foreign investors, and a proposal for government policies on innovation.
